Have you ever set a goal and not achived it .? What happened did you quite ? Did you lose the passion or the
drive to complete it? Did you even
try?
I have a philosophy about
setting goals. You can set any goal,
big or small, short or tall, and get
them all if you know why you want
it -- but, the “why” has to be big
enough.
People have been setting
goals and pursuing dreams for
thousands of years but only a few
have managed to accomplish them.
Louis Pasteur succeeded in his goal
of discovering vaccines for diseases
like cholera and rabies because he
was determined to not allow anyone
suffer and die from disease like
three of his four daughters did. In
his passion to improve
communication between him and
his wife, who was hard of hearing,
Alexander Graham Bell became
determined to create a hearing aide,
but in the process created a way that
a voice could be transmitted over
the wire. He succeeded in
developing the telephone. Even
unsung hero's, like your parents,
teachers, or those you would
consider mentors have succeeded in
providing many opportunities for
you to grow and learn, have taught
you values, and have shown you how
to survive in the world. Some
achieved their goals because of
prestige and recognition. Some did it
for their loved ones. Some wanted to
change the world around them.
Regardless of the reason,
THE "WHY" Drives
- Clarity
- Passion
- Commitment
- Determination
- Proactivity
When prusuing a goal
|
the “why”
was big enough for each of them to
commit to their goal and they
succeeded.
The “why” is the driving force
behind any goal!
It brings about clarity in
thought and in action. Once you
understand why you want, what you
want, or what it means to you to
accomplish a goal, it becomes easy to
put a plan in place to act on everyday
in efforts to accomplish that goal.
It produces a passion to see the
goal accomplished.
It generates commitment.
It produces determination.
Obstacles, big or small, don't stand a
chance when pursuing a goal.
It causes you to become more
proactive and forces you out of your
comfort zone.
The key is in the bigness of the “why”. Regardless of whether the
goal or the “why” behind the goal
is spiritual, societal, financial,
business, or interpersonal, the
bigger the “why” is to you, the
more likely you will work
towards accomplishing that goal
and succeeding.
Then you become a
person worthy of your goal.
